If you enjoy planning recreation programs and managing recreation facilities in a student-centered environment, WSU Vancouver Office of Student Involvement has a Recreation Coordinator position to consider!

Summary of Duties

Responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations within the university recreation area including managing budget, supervising staff, and developing and implementing recreation programs and activities including outdoor recreation trips, on/off campus intramural sports, recreation equipment program, fitness classes, personal training, special events, and recreation facility management.

Collaborates with the Office of Student Involvement to create holistic and comprehensive programs. Supports and equitable institutional culture through the development of programs involving diverse student populations.

Supervises 15-20 student staff, interns, and hourly employees. Develops and manages recreation budgets. Responsible for fiscal decisions related to recreation operating and facilities budgets.

Responsible for implementing and adhering to university policies and procedures to ensure overall safety and security of recreation facility and equipment users and recreation program participants.

Required Qualifications

Positions require a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Business, Recreation, Sport Management, Higher Education or related field) and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area, including a minimum of one (1) year of supervisor experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

Additional Qualifications

  • Must have or be able to obtain the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and CPR/AED certification within six (6) months of hire.

  • Must have or be able to obtain at the time of hire a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to travel, work evenings and weekends, including overnight trips.

  • Proficiency with word processing, database and spreadsheet software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a recreation and athletics specialist or other paid professional recreation experience.

  • Experience working with liability issue relevant to recreation.

  • Experience working in recreation in a higher education setting.

  • Experience planning and leading overnight and extended outdoor recreation trips.

  • Experience with recreation/fitness equipment operations, maintenance and inventory control.

  • Experience with organized individual and group sport teams.

  • Demonstrated experience collaboratively supporting an inclusive and diverse student population.

The position is primarily on-site. Limited remote work will be considered during breaks when students are not present.
