Job Summary:  Recording Engineer position assists the Recording Operations Manager in planning, recording, mixing, editing and delivering recordings needed for productions and events within BYU's School of Music, including live audio streaming and broadcasting of performances.  This position also assists maintain and organize equipment and archive, and assist in training student personnel. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Record and mix for stream live/studio projects on and off the BYU Campus as required for the College of Fine Arts & Communications and assist Recording Manager on high profile projects.  Includes coordination, training, and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Mix recordings and assist Recording Manager in mixing high profile projects.  Includes post mixing for performances and recording sessions
  • Edit recordings for delivery and assist Recording Manager in editing high profile projects.  Includes editing songs, multi-track for content, and final mixes.
  • Maintain and organize equipment including ensuring that equipment is top working order, equipment is organized for easy access, and making recommendations to keep inventory in line with current technologies and trends.
  • Assist managing the archive database in a well-organized, timely, and readily-searchable manner.

Education/Experience:

    Minimum education/experience required:  

Two (2) or more years of professional Recording experience 

    Preferred:  

Bachelors degree with three (3) or more years of professional Recording experience

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

    Required:

  • Skill in Avid Pro-tools
  • Familiar with live and studio recording techniques
  • Skill with recording consoles, microphones, loudspeakers, and associated technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills; demonstrated negotiation skills and ability to remain consistently calm and collected in stressful situations
  • Ability to work and communicate expertly with composers, musicians, conductors, directors, producers, technicians, etc.
  • Proven ability to train others, maintain a positive working environment that also supports clients in a positive manner

     Preferred:

  • Avid Pro-tool Certified
  • Skill in network server technologies and file system management

 

Employee Class: Part-time Staff

Work Location: Provo Campus

Physical Exam Required:  Yes
Physical Exam Details: Must be able to lift approx. 20-50 lbs.  May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions

Pay Level: 50
Approximate Starting Salary: $23.75 - $31.00/hour
