Position Summary
The Receiving Specialist is a member of the Resource Acquisitions & Management (RAM) department. This department handles the acquisitions, licensing, administration, and support for library materials for collections throughout the University Libraries. 
RAM is responsible for expending a multi-million dollar monographic materials budget by acquiring print and electronic materials, using a variety of methods: firm orders, approval plans, blanket orders, and standing orders. The department places orders, sets up access, claims outstanding materials, receives materials, and processes invoices for subsequent payment. University Library Technicians in RAM work directly with different internal customers and external resource/service providers to answer questions about materials, complete orders, authorize payments, establish access and administration, and to ensure the functionality and availability of materials.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station
Responsibilities: 
* Manage the receipt of and payment for library materials acquired by multiple acquisition types, each of which involves unique workflows, vendor contacts, systems, and processes. 
* Receive library materials in all formats acquired by approval plans with U.S. and international vendors and blanket orders 
* Create and update records with relevant metadata, notes, and payment details to ensure they accurately represent the materials received and their associated costs. 
* Confirm the specificity of shipments align with expected orders across a range of unique workflows and vendors.
* Review invoices for accuracy and authorize invoices for payment.
* Use independent decision-making skills and direct communication to identify and troubleshoot complex problems in collaboration with staff across RAM, other library departments, and vendor contacts according to established policies.
* Assist with the management of resources acquired by standing order and firm order. 
* Occasional copy cataloging work on an as-needed basis.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Ability to perform complex tasks with a high degree of accuracy and minimal direct supervision, prioritizing tasks effectively and managing time and deadlines
* Strong technical literacy and computer skills that include fluency with Microsoft office applications
* Evidence of strong organizational and analytical skills. 
* Excellent oral and written communication skills 
* Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within a team environment
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Previous academic library and technical service experience, particularly in cataloging or acquisitions; bibliographic knowledge of at least one modern language other than English; experience with Sierra or another automated library system.
