Job Summary

As an experienced technician in clinical applications, applies professional concepts and extensive industry knowledge to work on medium to large Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) projects of broad scope and complexity. Provides administrative and technical support in the development, installation, and ongoing maintenance of RTLS throughout the institution.  In support of the Medical Center Environmental Monitoring Program maintains an outstanding customer service-oriented relationship with each department stakeholder.  Maintains system/technical documentation, troubleshoots tags and RTLS at an application level, and facilitates open communication with IT / Clinical Systems and our departmental partners. Provides technical assistance in identifying and defining issues; evaluates and identifies methods and means for resolution and implements systems and procedures.  Experienced in RTLS asset tracking hardware and infrastructure devices.

Department Description

The Ancillary Systems Group is within the Clinical Systems Department. The team consists of 4 groups including Technology Apps, Departmental Apps, Customer Engagement Apps, and Application Security.  The Departmental Applications team is involved in the design, building, testing, and implementation of clinical application systems. The team provides support to clinical users through knowledge of clinical processes, documentation needs, workflows, and clinical practice standards, when adapting software to meet their needs. The team also works with clinicians to create or adapt written protocols, prepares detailed specs encompassing clinical processes, information flow, risk and impact analysis. They also provide customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • Strong Experience supporting an RTLS program in a Healthcare environment
  • Minimum of 1.5 years’ experience implementing or supporting an RTLS platform.
  • Be available 24x7 for emergencies involving critical technical problems.
  • Broad and / or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
  • Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively, train, support, and work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems at all professional and technical levels.
  • Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on deadline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical application users in a specific, clear, and concise manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in RTLS systems in medical environments, including procedure areas and patient care rooms.
  • 5+ years navigating clinical environments in support of RTLS devices.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to design and execute tests, analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses.
  • Ability to work with senior staff and managers, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of RTLS functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.
  • Strong understanding of medical device types and their use, able to adapt to different tracking RTLS tag types and deployment methods.
  • Understanding of clinical operations and ability to quickly assess, recommend, and improve clinical workflows
  • Strong skills in data manipulation for uploads of asset data to RTLS systems. 
  • Expert knowledge of AwarePoint RTLS systems including InfoPoint & SearchPoint including the ZigBee infrastructure hardware.
