Job Description

The Nuclear Engineering & Science Center’s (NESC) Reactor Facilities play an important role in the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station’s (TEES) mission of performing research and leveraging expertise from universities, national laboratories, and state and federal agencies to improve lives through basic and applied engineering research. The Reactor Facilities provide support to instructional and research programs for all TAMUS colleges and departments as well as other organizations state-wide, nationally, and internationally. The two reactors are the foundation of the NESC, consisting of a 1-Megawatt TRIGA (NSCR) and a 5-Watt AGN along with associated research and service facilities and infrastructure.

The Technician I, under general supervision, performs a clearly defined variety of technical functions of limited complexity that support facility operations and research at the Nuclear Engineering & Science Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Cleans facility and maintains facility and grounds as directed by the Laboratory Technical Coordinator/Manager or other facility leadership
  • Assists with material handling, organization, storage, and disposal.
  • Assembles and operates laboratory and field equipment based on standard operating procedures
  • Conducts test preparation and simple testing following clearly defined procedures
  • Performs standard laboratory or field experiments with clear instructions
  • Collects and records data. May perform data entry and associated computer activities.
  • Maintains reference materials.
  • With appropriate training and certification, and clearly defined procedures, may work with some radioactive materials in preparation for shipping to customers offsite.

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Two years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to maintain and operate grounds maintenance and intermediate sized tractors.

Other Requirements:

  • May be required to work in hot, cold, or extreme weather conditions.
  • Travel may be required.
