Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | ReUP Advisor – Grant University of South Carolina Upstate RTF00057PO24 Spartanburg, SC The ReUP advisor provides readmitted adult students with comprehensive support and guidance. This position serves as a liaison with OneSpartanburg staff to connect adult learners with the University. This position assists the students with choosing a major, academic life coaching, and career planning and guides the student through the process of credit for prior learning. Additionally, the position works collaboratively with the students to help them achieve their educational and professional goals, overcome any barriers they may encounter, and connect them with the relevant resources and opportunities on campus and in the community. |

Required Education and Experience | Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field and at least three years of experience in social work, life coaching, career counseling, or academic advising or a similar role in a higher education setting. A successful background check is required. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree preferred; Experience working with adult students. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Ability to possess a thorough knowledge of University Policy and Procedures. Excellent verbal and written skills are required as are the abilities to perform detailed work, deal with interruptions, handle multiple concurrent tasks, and maintain a high level of confidentiality with special regard to student records and information. Effective problem-solving skills. Information technology proficiency in database and spreadsheet software and Microsoft Office products. Ability to work with diverse populations and empathize with the unique needs and challenges of adult students. Knowledge of the principles and practices of credit for prior learning assessment. |
Job Duties
Job Duty | Navigate readmitted students through the major transitions of college enrollment. Provide programming for students as they enter, continue to enroll, and leave the institution. Maintains a caseload and works directly with students to accomplish educational goals. Key aspects include maintaining the integrity of academic policies while being a student advocate and fostering a culture of student responsibility and success. Provide students with personalized academic plans and information about possible consequences of academic decisions. Assist students with strategies to meet the graduation requirements and succeed in their chosen programs. |
