We are seeking a new member of our team with a background in rangeland science and technical tools, strong communication and collaboration skills, and a creative and solutions-oriented mindset to help us increase the impact and relevance of science and technology in rangeland management. INR’s Rangeland Sustainability Program is a growing and dynamic program that works with a wide range of collaborators to foster sustainable management of rangelands through the collection, synthesis, and application of actionable and relevant information. This position will work closely with the Rangeland Sustainability Program lead, the Oregon SageCon Partnership network, and collaborators throughout the West to help apply science and technology to the most pressing issues facing rangeland management. This position will involve diverse and varied work, including: Work with partners to understand high-priority needs for science delivery and technology transfer to support rangeland management. Assist our local partners working at County, watershed or District levels in synthesizing multiple types of data, relevant science, and technical tools in management applications such as land health assessments, treatment planning and monitoring, and cross-boundary strategic action plans, and use these examples as case studies for broader technology transfer and adaptive learning. Curate and synthesize existing spatial datasets in the SageCon Landscape Planning Tool, including integration of new data layers relating to projected climate change. Conduct geospatial analyses and/or ecological modeling to fill knowledge gaps, and work with partners to understand and integrate these datasets into their planning and management. Deliver technical tools and resources through development of support materials and live and/or virtual workshops and trainings. Work with partners to understand and adapt the most effective methods for technical transfer across a wide range of audiences. Assist in organizing and facilitating technical work groups, trainings, and workshops through the SageCon Partnership or other venues. Assist in proposal development to address rangeland science and technology transfer needs and grant writing for INR’s Rangeland Sustainability Program.
Qualifications
Masters or higher degree in ecology or related field. At least 3 years of experience with spatial analyses and/or ecological modeling. Strong background in rangeland science, ecology, and management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of partners. Ability to synthesize and integrate information into accessible formats for a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work on multiple projects, manage time effectively and independently, and communicate progress and barriers with collaborators and supervisors. Demonstrated ability to develop funding for research, design projects, and disseminate results. Preferred previous experience in technology transfer working directly with land managers and practitioners to integrate science and technology into decision-making. Preferred previous experience facilitating multi-stakeholder technical groups. This position will have a starting salary range of $65,00-75,000 with excellent benefits and a flexible schedule, including remote work options. This position will require periodic travel throughout eastern Oregon and may involve occasional travel in other western states. Location can be flexible within the state of Oregon.
