Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; limited nights and weekends


Job Summary: The Radiology Technician performs diagnostic x-ray exams for patients from all clinical areas. Collects samples by accepted methods for use in various laboratory analysis and test as directed. Prepares samples. Administers, monitors, and makes initial screening of tests as ordered by physicians. Operates a variety of machines including Urine Chemistry Analyzer, Glucometer, Computer assisted Electrocardiograph Analysis System, and Hematology Analyzer.


Additional Department Summary: The Radiology Technician provides diagnostic patient care services using x-ray and related diagnostic equipment and procedures. Works directly with patients and physicians and operates x-ray equipment. Explains the x-ray procedure to patients. Evaluates images for technical quality and presents images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team. Maintains patient records and medical notes related to the x-ray procedure. May also collect samples and prepare samples by accepted methods for use in various laboratory analysis and test as directed.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a twenty-four (24) month Radiological Technologist Certified School. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists or the able to become registered within the six (6) months of hire.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Ability to perform x-ray services as directed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or other qualified medical professional. Knowledge of radiation protection and safety practices. Ability to present information clearly and professionally throughout the patient care process. Knowledge/experience with electronic health record systems. Proficiency in the use of standard computer application software.

Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment. Desire to exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interactions. Willingness to learn and consistently deliver patient-centered, high-quality customer service. Ability to maintain strict confidentially of protected health information and follow HIPAA regulations at all times. Punctual and reliable, ability to work extended hours as needed during busier clinic times.


Preferred Qualifications: Phlebotomy experience preferred.
