Racquet Sports Director, Duke Faculty Club

Job Summary

Develop, manage, plan, and implement a diverse tennis and pickleball program for the Duke Faculty Club.

Work Performed:

General Duties

- Develop, manage, plan, and implement competent tennis and pickleball instruction for all groups and levels, including but not limited to juniors, adults, seniors, beginners and advanced players.

- Develop, manage, plan, and implement the provision of private, semi-private, and group instruction; intra-club play; league play; summer tennis camps; and social, recreational, and educational tennis opportunities for the DFC community.

- Recruit, interview, hire, manage, train, schedule, and evaluate tennis staff, ensuring delivery of consistent excellence in programming.

- Perform long and short-term planning for program and facility budget expenditures; work with DFC Executive Director and other pertinent staff regarding expenditure monitoring, proper billing and resolution of disputed charges.

- Communicate program opportunities, schedule changes and general club announcements to the membership through email, newsletter articles, social media, website, and personal interaction.

- Assist in the development and coordination of marketing strategies and activities to generate continued growth of the DFC and its various programs and services.

- Provide oversight of all tennis facilities and equipment, working with the Facilities Coordinator and Executive Director to insure safe and playable conditions.

- Manage, order, and stock pro shop items. Set up and retain professional accounts with vendors pertinent to the maintenance of quality tennis goods and supplies for member usage and purchase.

- Assist in the oversight of all DFC facilities insuring safety and cleanliness; Enforce all DFC rules and regulations governing the use of its facilities, equipment and other property.

- Assist the DFC management staff in other club related activities and events.

- Work to create a welcoming and vibrant environment that promotes safety, quality customer service, and excellence.

Education/Training:

· Work requires analytical, communication and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program.

Experience:

· Optimal candidates will have 5 years experience in tennis program administration and instruction, including supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

· USPTA or PTR certification required.

Skills/Requirements:

· Demonstrated administrative and management abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, high levels of energy, enthusiasm and motivation, maturity, and the ability to work effectively with members and other professional staff.

· Ability to multi-task and reprioritize continuously throughout the workday.

· High level of knowledge and demonstrated competence to teach all levels of tennis classes.

· Competent computer skills; Knowledge of club management software (CourtReserve).

· Ability to work flexible hours, to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the responsibilities of the position.

· Clay (Har-Tru) court expertise, especially a skillset in resurfacing of courts


Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
