Racial Justice Educator

Updated: 2 days ago
Location: Waltham, MASSACHUSETTS
Job Type: PartTime
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Brandeis University is seeking a Racial Justice Educator (RJE) for a temporary position. This role involves playing a critical role in developing and delivering workshops, lessons, seminars, and learning opportunities for faculty, staff, and students (both undergraduate and graduate). The focus of these educational initiatives will be on racial justice, unconscious bias, microaggressions, white privilege and fragility, solidarity and allyship, identity, prejudice, inequality, antisemitism, and the history and legacy of racism.

The Racial Justice Educator will also facilitate dialogue circles open to all. These circles aim to foster a welcoming space where participants can engage with each other as they learn anti-racist practices that contribute to the creation of an equitable and inclusive community.

Racial justice refers to the systematic fair treatment of people of all races, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes for everyone. As a Racial Justice Educator, you will provide tools, strategies, and resources for creating learning spaces conducive to discussions about race and ancillary issues. You will also offer cultural competency training to enhance the ability to teach students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

This role requires an understanding of the characteristics of white supremacy that can manifest in organizational culture that stems systemic and institutionalized racism and discrimination. Such characteristics can elevate the values, preferences, and experiences of one racial group above all others and can be damaging to both people of color and white people. The successful candidate will be expected to address these issues in the educational initiatives they design.

PART-TIME: Average 4-5 hours/week is anticipated, but not guaranteed. Will work on projects and initiative as assigned.
