UI Health is seeking two Quality Specialists to join our Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Services teams.  This role is responsible for the Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Continuous Quality Improvement (CCQI) via operational analysis, data management, and clinical operations development across the care continuum. The Quality Specialist partners and collaborates with physicians and staff in developing and implementing patient-centered, horizontally integrated care delivery models to achieve all AHA, CMS, regulatory, Leapfrog, and other applicable measures.

The Quality Specialist develops and implements clinical operations on review and analysis of multiple data sources, including qualitative surveys, quantitative audits and evidence-based best practices and literature reviews. The position coordinates all database registries for UIH Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Observes clinical and operational workflow practices to identify gaps in performance deviating from best practices, utilizing appropriate QI tools. Develops and implements plans to address gaps and create improvement.
  • Serves as a liaison between patients, staff and physicians and serves as a CQI administrative lead.
  • Develops and maintain pre-op patient education program (may be class format or one-on-one to ensure patients understanding of surgical procedures and expectations)
  • Assists with Quality Improvement initiatives with the Cardiovascular & Pulmonary departments in the College of Medicine
  • Prepares progress reports to leadership, identifies opportunities, develops action plans and issues requiring escalation for resolution.
  • Participates in designing audits to measure compliance of clinical practices and operations to ensure compliance
  • Educates staff regarding national quality measure standards and algorithms to improve performance.
  • Collaborates with clinicians, health system administrators/staff to design workflows, which promote best practices.
  • Have a significant and detailed understanding of all relevant cardiovascular disease registries, their uses, impacts on payment mechanisms and marketplace recognitions.
  • Manages all registry databases for Cardiovascular & Pulmonary services for complete and accurate submissions
  • Abstracts data from electronic health records, reconciles data inconsistencies, defines criteria to locate and retrieve accurate information.
  • Performs entry of clinical data into one or more electronic system(s)
  • Assists in interpretation of statistical trends and patterns of variation and implications for improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in education/training of individuals or teams on data analysis and interpretation
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree as required by the position to be filled in the area of specialization inherent in the position may be required.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of Quality Improvement work experience in a clinical or healthcare related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field (Registered Nurse preferred)
    • Knowledge of computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and EPIC
    • Knowledge of process improvement methodology and tools Knowledge of data collection methodology
    • Experience with basic statistical process control
    • Problem-solving and team facilitation skills
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Project management and time management skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to learn and utilize new software applications for data entry and reporting
    • Ability to train, present to small and large groups
    • Ability to act as a consultant to clinicians and non-clinicians
