What You Will Do
 

This position will be filled at either the Quality Assurance Engineer 3 /4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The selected Quality Assurance Engineer 3 or 4 will receive day-to-day direction from the DL and will be expected to work in either a high-explosive or nuclear manufacturing environment.

 

Quality Assurance Engineer 3 ($89,900 - $148,300)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Quality Assurance Engineer 4 will be required to:


  • Perform Product Acceptance and submittal activities to include, data package reviews to ensure product meets design and quality requirements, procedure maintenance, identifying issues and identifying action to improve Product Acceptance processes, as well as evaluation of processes, procedures, and applications contributing to the overall objective of sustaining an effective weapons Production Agency Quality Management System.

  • Prepare, review, receive, index, classify, and transmit administrative and QA records.

Quality Assurance Engineer 4 ($108,100 - $182,500)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Quality Assurance Engineer 4 will be required to:


  • Train and qualify others to perform Product Acceptance.

  • Follow up on actions taken in response to audit findings to assure adequacy of completed corrective actions, providing recommendations on best practices to effectively address the findings.

  • Mentor Laboratory personnel with the implementation and understanding of QA policies, plans, and procedures, providing Laboratory management with recommendations and advice.

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Proven experience in design, development, manufacturing, inspection, and/or testing of products.

  • Advanced ability in understanding, interpreting, and communicating drawings and specifications.

  • Proven experience in comparing and contrasting quality control results against technical specifications.

  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills as evidenced by successful interaction with various levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and/or customers.

Additional Job Requirements for Quality Assurance Engineer 4:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Quality Assurance Engineer 4 level requires:


  • Expert-level experience in design, development, manufacturing, inspection, and/or testing of various products and assemblies including those with moderate to high complexity.

  • Expert-level experience in understanding, interpreting, and communicating drawings and specifications.

  • Experience mentoring and/or training personnel

Desired Skills:


  • Advanced knowledge of the weapons quality requirements (NAP-24x) and NNSA Defense Program Business Process System requirements related to product realization.

  • Knowledge of and experience with NNSA product acceptance process, methods, and requirements.

  • Knowledge of and experience with NNSA stamping and marking process, methods, and requirements.

  • Expert-level ability to mentor personnel in their area of expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with quality regulations, policies, and procedures.

Quality Assurance Engineer 3 Education Required: BS degree in engineering, quality assurance, industrial systems engineering, or related field and a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.  At this level, post-graduate coursework may be expected.  Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.

Quality Assurance Engineer 4 Education Required: BS/MS degree in engineering, quality assurance, industrial systems engineering, or related field and a minimum of 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.  At this level, post-graduate coursework may be expected.  Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).  Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

The Production Agency Quality organization provides the Quality Engineering and Product Inspection expertise in support of the diverse manufacturing assignments within the Weapons Production (WP) The goal is to exceed internal and external customer requirements by facilitating effective implementation of defined applicable quality standards into product manufacturing processes. The diverse project support base includes but is not limited to; weapons, oxide production, NASA power sources, radiological materials production and various “strategic partnerships” projects.
