What You Will Do

This position is based in the Quality Support Services group and reports to the IQPA-QSS group leader. The QSS mission is to support Institutional Programs and Projects to ensure quality requirements are met and implemented into processes by performing oversight and inspection activities to validate that specifications are being adhered to during construction, maintenance and modification activities at LANL. The selected candidate will be assigned to support both deployed and institutional inspection activities.

The selected incumbent will be responsible for performing Electrical and Instrument and Control Level II inspections in support of construction, maintenance and modification work performed at TA-55 and throughout the Laboratory. You will be required to certify and maintain Level II certifications for these disciplines. Regular contacts with other resources internal and external to the IQPA-QSS organization are also typical to successfully execute responsibilities. Candidates must have the ability to be Q Cleared, participate in HRP, and are able to work a Shift-Work type schedule. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to – being responsible and accountable for the control and review of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and inspection/test reports prior to submittal; maintaining clear, concise communication with Project Management and others on the project; proactively evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for correct actions; assisting in the deployment and updating of inspection procedures, reports/inspection forms/formats, protocols and checklists.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Perform Level II Electrical and Instrument Control inspections as directed by supervision

  • Qualify and Certify to perform as a Level II Electrical and I&C Certifications Inspector

  • Working knowledge of NEC and IEEE Standards

  • Knowledge and experience in Electrical and Instrument and Control (I&C) Level II Inspections and the tools and techniques required to perform the associated inspection activities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NQA-1

Education/Experience: This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance or related field, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 7 years’ experience in industrial/commercial electrical construction/instrument and control inspection activities.

  • Experience in communicating inspection results in a manner that provides understanding to non-technical personnel.

  • Experience reviewing manufacturing process/ component/ subassembly/ assembly documentation to ensure conformance with design and manufacturing requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to perform inspection activities and provide reporting deliverables in a timely and professional manner

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
