Job Description

Position Description: The Purchasing Specialist purchases supplies and equipment in compliance with purchasing policies and procedures. Interprets purchasing procedures and communicates to departments and to vendors. A successful candidate should have strong computer skills and have the ability to work independently and also in a team setting.  A professional attitude along with excellent customer service skills are necessary. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when handling freight.

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Purchasing experience
  • Inventory Management experience
  • Shipping experience with UPS, FedEx and large freight
  • Forklift experience
  • Supervisory experience

Appointment Date: Start date to be determined after acceptance of an offer and completion of criminal background check.

Salary: $14.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and maintain lists of eligible vendors and select vendors to procure requisitioned commodities, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality, and delivery date.
  • Process invoices and requests for payments against requisitions.
  • Resolve and answer questions regarding purchasing issues with departments and vendors.
  • Responsible for the shipping and receiving parcels and freight, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Unload incoming freight delivered to the warehouse.
  • Responsible for picking up and delivering mail to and from the Post Office.
  • Oversee the filling and delivering of orders to campus departments by student employees.
  • Manage the operations of the warehouse when the Purchasing Warehouse Manager is out.
  • Help process outgoing mail and sort incoming mail.
  • Maintain organization within the warehouse including all inventory.
  • Perform yearly warehouse inventory.
  • Responsible for hiring and supervising student employees.
