Job Description


Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.
The goal of the Purchasing Specialist is to play a pivotal role in managing our procurement processes and ensuring the efficient sourcing of goods and services for the campus community. The Purchasing  Specialist will support and demonstrate Business Office efforts that fulfill the strategic goals of the College’s mission and service area. The Purchasing Specialist develops and implements procurement strategies in line with campus community goals. Oversees the procurement process in coordination with the Shared Services Center (SSC) pertaining to supplier selection utilizing mandatory contracts as necessary. The Purchasing Specialist will collaborate with various departments to understand their procurement needs and provide support and strategic solutions. Will work with suppliers to establish strong supplier relationships. The Purchasing Specialist will monitor and ensure timely payment of invoices in collaboration with the SSC. Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators, and suppliers to respond to the needs of the campus community and proactively resolve issues in a timely manner using effective problem resolution skills. Must promote the college professionally to internal and external constituencies to support the College’s strategic goal and vision.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certifications, education, training and/or experience is required. Working knowledge of the practices and procedures of governmental purchasing through eVA or another equivalent platform. Excellent customer service skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful environment. Effectively utilize Microsoft Office with specific emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
Additional Considerations
Experience in a higher education, business office setting. Experience with AIS PeopleSoft or equivalent accounting system. Working knowledge (with guidance) of system enhancements, software upgrades and project implementation. Virginia Contracting Officer/Associate Certification or equivalent.
