The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiate sports, comprised of 14 women’s and 10 men’s programs, that compete at the Division I level. The Scarlet Knights are members of the prestigious Big Ten Conference, the nation’s premier academic and athletic conference, after officially joining the league on July 1, 2014. Known as “The Birthplace of College Football, Rutgers hosted Princeton on Nov. 6, 1869 in the first intercollegiate football game, with RU earning a 6-4 victory.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Relations Specialist I for Rutgers Athletics. The position manages and coordinates marketing and promotional efforts for Rutgers Athletics sports, with concentration on Women’s Basketball. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Serves as an integral part of Football planning and gameday execution, and events associated with assigned Rutgers Olympic Sports.
  • Oversees, coordinates, and manages all marketing, fan experience, digital and traditional advertising, merchandise strategies, and promotional efforts for Rutgers Athletics for assigned sports. 
  • Assists with other duties as assigned, such as new ticket driving initiatives, and increasing attendance and atmosphere. 
  • Main point of contact for merchandise partner on game days and daily online activity, working with all internal parties to execute best possible game day experience for Rutgers fans.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in sports administration, marketing or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in sports marketing/event management field, management experience. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Possesses written and oral communication skills.  
  • Computer literate
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four years of relevant experience
Equipment Utilized
  • Position must be computer literate and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, with basic knowledge of Photoshop and/or other graphics programs a plus. 
  • Must also be familiar with videoboards, music programs, scripting, and game calling. 
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
