The Public Information Specialist (E S 7) will provide technology support for the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity (OMA&D), in addition, develops and maintains the website and student communication for Academic Counseling Services (ACS) programs.  Position will also be responsible for administering OMA&D's SharePoint server and all digital signage platforms and media across OMA&D and 13 GEAR UP school districts.

OMA&D's mission is to create pathways for diverse populations to access post-secondary opportunities, nurture and support their academic success, and cultivate a campus climate that enriches the educational experience for all. The person in this role will support programs, units, and centers dedicated to this effort.

The GEAR UP program is the single largest grant operated by OMA&D.  It currently serves approximately 5,000 students throughout Washington State with an annual operating budget of 4 million with a 7-year commitment to renew. The goal of the GEAR UP grant is to increase student college-going rates and preparedness which has and continues to directly impact University recruitment and retention of traditionally under-served and 1st generation students from primarily minority communities.

Academic Counseling Services (ACS) houses several advising teams that guide over 6,000 students annually through the process of selecting and registering for classes, exploring possible majors and career goals, and assisting with financial aid, housing, personal matters and a variety of other topic areas. All activity in ACS is focused on the success of students affiliated with OMA&D programs.

This position requires the use of sound judgment and thorough understanding of OMA&D and our mission in order to support a wide range of educational programs providing services to underrepresented, first generation and educationally/economically disadvantaged students throughout University of Washington and the state of Washington.
