The Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health consists of 21 primary faculty, 20 joint faculty, and over 50 adjunct faculty, many affiliated with CDC. The Department has achieved national and international recognition for research programs in environmental epidemiology, toxicology, infectious disease ecology, exposure science, risk analysis and implementation science. The faculty has particular strength in air pollutant and waterborne exposures and exposure to pesticides and other chemicals. Multiple opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in environmental health exist with other academic departments and with nearby institutions, including the CDC and Georgia Tech. Current partnerships and centers include a NIEHS Environmental Health Sciences Core Center (Exposome focus), NIEHS-designated Children's Health Exposure Analysis Resource (CHEAR) Laboratory, the Emory Center for Global Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and a university-wide initiative on climate change (Climate@Emory). The Rollins School of Public Health is recognized as one of the nation’s leading public health schools and enrolls over 1000 students in its graduate programs.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Under limited supervision, uses a basic knowledge of public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote new and creative strategies and solutions to address public health issues and challenges.
  • Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.
  • Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions.
  • May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, web-based resources, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues.
  • May work with clinical study sites on patient recruitment and data collection standards.
  • Assists with data collection and data analysis.
  • Contributes to proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.
  • May assist in designing, developing, and conducting targeted training initiatives.
  • May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • We are looking for a highly motivated, research oriented recent MPH graduate to join our group.
  • Major responsibilities of this position include access and processing of satellite data products, gridded meteorological fields and chemical simulation results, GIS operations for data stacking and processing, technical report preparation, and assistance in manuscript writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in public health, a master's of science degree in public health or health education, or a master's in development practice from an accredited school.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A MPH/MSPH degree in environmental health, epidemiology or biostatistics.
  • Strong coding skills in SAS, R and/or Python.
  • Working knowledge in ArcGIS and high performance cluster environment.
  • Experience in technical writing.
  • Knowledge of air pollution exposure and health effects is a plus.

 

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
