Applicants will be invited for interviews between 7/18 and 8/1.

Day and Time Commitment

  • The start and end dates of this position are Thursday, 8/18/22 – Friday, 12/16/22.

  • TAs must be present to facilitate lab, which will be held immediately following lecture on Thursdays from 10:45-11:45 AM. TAs are expected to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to lab. **Note: we will work with students’ schedules in the case that students have another required class that ends at 10:45 AM.

  • TAs will meet with the course instructor of their section throughout the semester and must be available for remote meetings Thursdays 6-7 PM or Fridays 1-3 PM (Dr. Memel’s section; meeting time TBD for Dr. C-T’s section), unless otherwise approved

  • TAs are generally expected to hold office hours for 2 hours each week throughout the semester during a designated TA office hour time.

  • TAs must be willing to offer meeting times by appointment to students who cannot attend office hours or who need additional support from the TA.

  • TAs may be asked to guest lecture for all or part of a class pending experience/interest (TAs are not intended to replace the instructor of record).

  • TAs will be expected to work approximately 6-10 hours a week as follows: Lab: 1 hr (Thursdays from 10:45-11:45 AM)
    Office Hours: 2 hrs
    Grading/Prep time: 2-8 hrs

    Meetings/supervision with instructor: 0-1hr TA Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate student with satisfactory completion of the required course (received “A” grade in PSYD 716 or equivalent course)

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage small group of students

  • Must be personable and accessible to students

  • Ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information


TA Tasks and Responsibilities

The TA will assist the instructor by performing teaching or teaching-related duties related to the PSYD 716 Intellectual Assessment class. The TA will meet with the instructor before the beginning of the semester to review the syllabus and expectations for lab and for lab/homework assignments.

  • TA and instructor will establish communication mechanisms including how/where to record student attendance and participation

  • TA and instructor will collaborate on lab and other homework assignments for the semester. TA may recommend modifying some assignments. Modified assignments must always receive instructor approval

  • TA will develop teaching materials and guidelines for labs (with instructor input and approval, as The TA and instructor will review materials on Canvas to be sure students have access to all the data files needed to complete lab and other homework assignments needed)

  • The TA will supervise a section of the class (~6 students) in administering and scoring intellectual assessment measures

  • The TA will be responsible for evaluation of the accuracy of test administration and scoring procedures and provide feedback to students via written and oral communication

  • The TA will track and record student attendance and punctuality and give the instructor input about each student’s participation and performance on course assignments.

  • The TA will communicate any student concerns (learning, performance, attendance/punctuality, interpersonal) to the instructor; it is the instructor’s responsibility to resolve any student concerns

    Weekly duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Retrieve test manuals, record forms, and stimuli

  • Facilitate labs

  • Take and track student attendance

  • Provide input to instructor on student participation

  • Review and correct student assignments to inform faculty evaluation and grading

  • Provide feedback and guidance to students in lab

  • Be available to students during outside of lab for extra assistance as needed via email, phone, or Zoom/video

  • Assist with development of midterm and final exams

  • Performs other related duties as assigned
