Overview
Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Psychologist in New Brunswick Outpatient at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Psychologist position is to, under the direction of the Program Manager; provide therapeutic interventions for the psychological and social needs of individuals served. The psychologist will provide psychological testing as required by the program to increase our understanding of the issues experienced by the individuals we serve. Supports the integration of evidence based practices and provide therapeutic interventions based upon the principles of wellness and recovery.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Consistently works in accordance with established policies and procedures as observed by the supervisor.
  • Actively participates in and contributes to the smooth functioning of unit and demonstrates initiative and flexibility regarding work assignments as observed by supervisor and administrative feedback.
  • Provides direct care, psychotherapeutic interventions/services in accordance with UBHC program/unit policies, accreditation standards, licensing regulations and billing requirements.
  • As required by the program, administers high level, specialized, diagnostic psychological testing, evaluations and/or written comprehensive assessment reports as clinically indicated in a timely fashion as observed by supervisor and offers feedback to individuals served and members of the clinical team as needed.
  • Spends appropriate percentage of time providing direct services as determined by unit.
  • Effectively manages caseload demands including crises.
  • Consistently provides individual, group and family therapy based on sound clinical judgment with empathy and concern as indicated by supervisory observation and feedback from individual served, family and fellow team members.
  • Will implement workflow to secure collection of data for research and quality improvement, as well as provides the latest psychoeducational research to the treatment team as needed.
  • Completes and monitors clinical records in compliance with UBHC program policies, accreditation standards, licensing regulations and billing requirements.
  • Formulates assessments, treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, progress notes, and termination/discharge summaries as observed by supervisory observation and periodic review.
  • Takes a lead clinical role in the department, including the professional development of staff, students and interns as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D. in Psychology with relevant experience that includes consultation, testing, program development/evaluation activities.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience, including graduate training, working in a behavioral health care or related setting.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Candidate must be licensed in the State of New Jersey as a Clinical
    Psychologist.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Extensive sitting, standing, talking, listening, reading, and walking. Lifting requirements vary based on program.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Active outpatient or milieu environment with moderate noise and extensive interaction with individuals served throughout the program day, requiring the ability to respond flexibly to individual needs and safety concerns. In some programs, may be subject to unpredictable situations, medical or psychiatric crises and occasional exposure to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
