They also must have experience providing direct mental health counseling services. They will be housed within Athletics and work directly with the student-athlete population and MSU Athletics Department Coaches, Administration and Staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide education to the athletics department (i.e. trainers, sports medicine providers, administrators, coaches, athletes, etc) about the role of the embedded mental health clinician.
    • This should include limitations to the role, with a specific focus on protecting client confidentiality in all settings as outlined in MT law and relevant ethics codes. This includes securing releases of information as needed to coordinate services.
  • Provide direct counseling services to student athletes, in a private, confidential space either at the Athletics facility or CPS, under CPS clinical policies and procedures.
  • Clinical documentation must be completed within CPS policy and exist within the secure health record system at CPS (Titanium Schedule).

  • Serve as the Big Sky Conference Mental Health Liaison for MSU Athletics.
  • Continually be in NCAA Compliance and current on NCAA Standards/requirements specific to mental health legislation.
  • Other duties as assigned by CPS and/or Athletics.

This role works closely with CPS providers to refer athletes to other qualified CPS providers (perhaps to work with a provider with a specialized area of focus or specific identity factors) or to off-campus providers if they need a higher level of care.
  • Provide training and education to CPS staff on athletics processes as well as consultation on best practices for clinical services for student athletes.

Must maintain annual continued education credits in the field of sport and performance psychology, as well as other CE requirements for clinical licensure.
