Job Summary
The University of Texas at Dallas Student Counseling Center (SCC) is seeking a full-time psychiatric nurse practitioner. Psychiatric staff within the center work closely as a team to provide psychiatric treatment and follow-up care to UTD students. The center works as a collaborative team around initiatives to enhance mental health services for the students at UT Dallas. UT Dallas is an incredibly diverse campus, and all SCC staff members participate in monthly all-staff trainings related to diversity, social justice and equity to support provision of affirming and accessible services to UTD students. Clinicians at this time are offering both in-person and virtual mental health services and are allotted one work-from-home day/week. The SCC is open M-F 8am-5pm.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s Nursing degree from a Psychiatric & Mental Health NP Program

Texas Board of Nursing Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner – Board Certified.

1 year experience training and working with young adults

Preferred Education and Experience
Preference is given to candidates who have experience providing services to diverse populations, such as, but not limited to BIPOC students, international students, neurodiverse students, and LGBTQ+ community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the SCC Psychiatrist, the psychiatric nurse practitioner:
  •  Provides assessment and evaluations of UTD students seeking psychiatric care
  • Provides diagnoses, psychiatric treatment plans, and prescriptions
  • Provides ongoing psychiatric care via follow-up appointments, case management, and referrals
  • Provides crisis intervention and follow-ups as needed
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, counselors, doctoral interns, and practicum counselors; consults as a clinical team member weekly at group consultation meetings or as needed by the providers
  • Engages in weekly staff meetings and diversity forums with SCC staff – Provides trainings to SCC trainees related to psychiatric services and treatment provision
  • Demonstrates commitment to equity and inclusion of people of diverse, intersecting identities
  • Holds strong clinical skills and ability to maintain up to date and accurate documentation
  • Has the option to offer brief clinical services in line with the SCC’s stepped care model (including skills-based workshops, single sessions, or Lets Talk) as well as participate in community engagement opportunities (e.g. help with outreach events; be a liaison to a campus partner)

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with licensure status and experience level. The position is associated with staff benefits, including sick and vacation days, professional development time, and professional funds.
