Job Summary

The Alliance Health Project (AHP) is a division of the UCSF Department of Psychiatry at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG). We are seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) interested in serving people living with complex trauma, minority stress, dual diagnoses, primary substance use disorders and severe mental illness.  This is an opportunity that allows for hybrid work (remote and on site) along with a flexible schedule with the use of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant telehealth tools and resources provided by UCSF.  The PMHNP will join a skilled and collegial mental health team at two of AHP's clinical sites.

Primarily, the clinical work will be at AHP Services Center on 1930 Market St, San Francisco. In this role the PMHNP will serve as a clinician working within a team consisting of mission-driven case managers, therapists, peer counselors and experts in sexual health. The PMHNP will provide clinical assessment, treatment and appropriate disposition for a caseload of patients with supervision provided by AHP’s Medical Director along with guidance provided by local leaders in community mental health.

The Alliance Health Project (AHP) is a community-based LGBTQ+ and HIV-focused clinic located at 1930 Market Street in San Francisco. We provide psychotherapy, substance use counseling, case management, support groups, psychiatry, sexual health services, clinical traineeship, and provider education and training. Our multi-disciplinary staff are a client-centered, collaborative, Harm Reduction-oriented team. We have continued to grow as a community-based clinic by anticipating and addressing the changing needs of our LGBTQ+ and HIV community members for more than 35 years. Our process of continuous improvement of service to our community includes a strong focus on cultural humility and anti-racist service provision.

The secondary clinical work site will be providing psychiatric consultation to primary care providers in HIV healthcare at Ward 86 located on the ZSFG campus.  The UCSF Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at ZSFG is an internationally recognized global leader in HIV clinical care, research and education. Ward 86 pioneered a comprehensive medical model that involves primary and specialty care, social services, and case management.

The PMHNP will be a member of the UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. UCSF’s DPBS is among the nation's foremost resources in the field of child, adolescent, and adult mental health. Psychiatry faculty members are recognized for their leadership roles in state-of-the-art and compassionate patient care, pioneering research, excellence in training the next generation of leaders, advancing public policy to advance mental health, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a PMHNP working within the department you will have opportunities to seek mentorship from leaders in nursing and also provide mentorship to nursing students.

ZSFG requires all Advanced Health Professionals who provide clinical services on the ZSFG campus to be credentialed through the ZSFG Medical Staff Office in order to practice and function in their clinical role. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures must be completed prior to the first working day.
