Work schedule to be split between the UCC (20 hours) and the College of Law (20 hours). Exact work schedule to be determined in collaboration with the College of Law. Schedule will include some evening hours. Occasional weekend hours possible.

The University Counseling Center (UCC) at the University of Utah enthusiastically welcomes applications for a mental health therapist who will work both within the UCC and will provide embedded services for the College of Law. This is a fully benefited, full-time 12-month position, with a 50/50 split for time spent in the UCC and the College of Law embedded sites. Responsibilities include the provision of individual, group, and couples counseling services, intake assessments, crisis intervention services, and provision of psycho-educational services targeted toward Law students. Possession of strong clinical skills, the ability to manage a full client caseload, and the ability to work independently are required, as well as a demonstrated commitment to working effectively from a multicultural orientation and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the unique challenges faced by law students, with experience providing clinical services to law students preferred.

1. Conduct individual, couple, and group psychotherapy.
2. Provide intake assessments and crisis intervention services.
3. Provide outreach presentations for College of Law students.
4. Other duties as assigned.

Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.*) certificate for clinical practice and two years directly related experience; demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team; ability to communicate verbally as well as in writing; and experience with conflict resolution when counseling individuals, couples and groups required. Experience working with community resources, instructing and supervising Social Workers, Interns and other caseworkers preferred. Five years of experience may be required in some areas.

*An L.C.S.W. is earned after completing 4000 hours of Social Work experience and a passing score on the L.C.S.W. exam.

Department Specific Qualifications: Candidates must have licensure for independent practice in Utah by start date as follows: For Social Work, have completed a Masters of Social Work with licensure as a Clinical Social Worker. For Professional Counseling, have completed a Masters of Mental Health Counseling with licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. For Marriage & Family Therapy, have completed a clinical master’s or doctorate degree in marriage and family therapy from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education with licensure as a Marriage & Family Therapist. For Psychology, have completed an APA- accredited pre-doctoral internship in counseling or clinical psychology and obtained licensure as a Psychologist.

1. Demonstrated knowledge of the unique challenges faced by law students.
2. At least two years’ experience in a counseling center setting.
3. Experience working in an embedded counseling position in a university or college setting.
4. Fluency in language other than English (e.g., Arabic languages; Mandarin) is also preferred.
