Job Summary
Serves as an abstractor and research assistant for the Utah Registry of Autism and Developmental Disabilities (URADD) Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (UT-ADDM) Project, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded study. Receives, gathers, and assists in obtaining data to conduct public health surveillance for autism spectrum disorder. The hire will work within a small group and receive training and technical assistance in methods used for data collection, analysis, and quality assurance. Enters data into a computer database and retrieves, corrects, or deletes previously entered data. Decides on the need for additional data and information to abstract and interpret information maintained in health and education records. Participates in URADD education and outreach efforts.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
1. Collects and compiles data from a variety of sources including paper and electronic health and education record sources using a PC laptop computer.
2. Uses health, education, and autism-related knowledge to make decisions regarding data collection, action, and communication that have an impact on program surveillance activities.
3. Travels to educational and health care facilities in Salt Lake, Davis, and Tooele counties.
4. Cleans and finalizes data to meet project requirements; creates and maintains an internal library describing project data resources.
5. May work with research personnel to design and prepare project deliverables.
6. Educates members of the public about autism and URADD at community education and outreach activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); one year of experience in research and analytical techniques; demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
Preferences
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or related field or equivalency required (2 years of related experience is equivalent to 1 year of education).
  • One year of experience in research and analytical techniques; basic knowledge of medical and educational terminology; knowledge and experience using basic computer database applications; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • A valid Utah Driver’s license and the capacity to lift 20 pounds are also required.
