Job Summary

Program Manager for Utah Initiative for Prevention, Investigation, and Education to Reduce Suicide (PIERS). Duties: planning, development, and execution of program initiatives.

Responsibilities

Assist with data analyses and preparation of scientific results for publications, presentations, and grant submissions. Assist with aspects of study design and scientific planning. Coordinate calls, meetings, notifications/announcements, website development and other outward facing activities that enhance the capacity for PIERS to build collaborations within and across institutions. These collaborations may include academic faculty, research leaders at other academic and/or state institutions, leaders of Foundations with suicide research/prevention focus, and other public policy leaders. Navigate administrative permissions for data and sample use, including IRB applications, and Data / Material Transfer Agreements. Identify potential public and private funding sources and relevant requests for proposals. Assist with developing budgets. Track progress and budgets of funded PIERS projects. Assist with the preparation of presentations and publications. Organize invited lectures, seminars, and retreats.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences

Preferred: Master’s level training/experience in a science/data related area, plus at least 3 years of program management experience. Demonstrated skills in communication and human relations. Experience with scientific research methods, aspects of scientific study design, and management of data.
