Job Summary
This is a full-time outpatient RN position in the Pediatric General Surgery Clinic. We offer a consistent schedule that encourages work-life balance. Our hours are Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30. No nights, no weekends or holidays. This position is largely administrative work; heavy phones with some hands-on patient care. Our patients are seen pre and post-operatively and the RN is the main contact fielding family questions regarding details, recovery, and triaging post-surgical concerns. We coordinate and schedule simple to very complex/urgent surgical cases. We work closely with the inpatient surgical/trauma team as well as with other departments to coordinate patient care. We maintain multiple calendars for 10 surgeons. 
We have an amazing team of surgeons and support staff and are looking for someone with strong critical thinking skills; ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations; excellent communication skills; a willingness to be flexible and adapt as situations require; is self-driven and takes pride in their work; a love for working with children but also possess the patience to work with anxious, agitated parents. A sense of humor is a HUGE plus.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
· Identifies, assesses and diagnoses problems through phone triaging and evaluates actual or potential patient health problems.
· Assesses, plans and implements interventions for solving patient care problems.
· Develops and participates in educating patients, their families, or significant others about post discharge care programs.
· Provides guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care.
· Provides and oversees direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocol and physicians’ orders.
· Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution; and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
· Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
· Attends and complete required training.
· Supervise and mentor MA’s and front office staff. 
· Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations.
· Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications

Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Preferred
Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
