What You Will Do

The Property Accounting team is within the FA Controller’s organization.  As an accountant on the property accounting team you will review purchase requests, capitalize and retire assets, monitor and record Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) or Additions in Progress (AIP).

The team is also responsible for monitoring and reconciling the inventory warehouses, processing the accounting entries for precious metals, isotopes, weapons production and special nuclear materials.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Working knowledge of accounting and financial concepts and principles.

  • Advance knowledge and experience to interpret and apply GAAP and CAS; financial accounting and cost accounting; developing, interpreting and applying financial policies and procedures.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting systems with the ability to effectively analyze account activity across all accounting processes.

  • Ability to identify process improvements and develop strategies and procedures to implement improvements.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively present detailed and complex information in an understandable manner.

  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience working as a team member in a high volume, and deadline driven environment.

Desired Skills:


  • Experience with DOE financial reports in conjunction with provisions of the DOE Financial & Accounting Management Handbook.

  • Accounting experience with personal property, real property, and capital assets.

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel used to analyze data.

Education Required: 


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of five years professional level work experience in a general ledger or auditing environment. Leadership experience preferred.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security.  LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

The financial management focus of the Finance & Accounting (FA) Division includes integrating processes and systems across the Division, providing quality business processes and systems throughout the Laboratory, and partnering with the programs and technical divisions to strengthen business capabilities. FA provides stewardship of Laboratory, Triad National Security, LLC, (TNS), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and sponsor resources, building alliances with NNSA, DOE, Los Alamos Site Office (LASO), and the Albuquerque Service Center.  FA supports LANL's business functions in Accounting, Budgeting, Financial Compliance, Corporate Reporting, Travel and Tax, Pension and Treasury.

The Controller’s organization is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations that support the mission of the Laboratory.  These functions include General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Property Accounting, Accounts Payable, Travel Operations, Payroll/Craft Payroll, Benefits Accounting, Corporate Reporting, Treasury/Tax and Financial Systems.
