Position Overview

ATLAS promotes learning and improved outcomes for all students. We create technology-based learning and assessment systems that are accessible and academically rigorous. Our center serves all students, including students with disabilities and struggling learners, as well as their educators. 

We specialize in map-based learning systems that are informed by research on skill development, assessment design, and teacher professional development. Our grant-funded research includes writing instruction, science professional development, support for teacher trainers, and science assessment design. We also foster partnerships with diverse organizations that share our focus and commitment to quality learning experiences for all students.
Our center develops and delivers state assessments. The Dynamic Learning Maps® (DLM®) Alternate Assessment System assesses students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in English language arts, mathematics, and science. We also offer custom social studies alternate assessments. Our broader state assessments include the Kansas Assessment Program, the Career Pathways Assessment System, and the Kansas English Language Proficiency Assessment. 

ATLAS is seeking 1-2 Project Specialists to support the center’s projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in one or more of these primary areas: preparing customer communications; entering and managing data and reports; organizing events/scheduling; coordinating projects; coordinating online training; or coordinating travel reimbursements and honorariums. Project Specialists will provide customer service and collaborate with other teams as needed. The work location for this position is Lawrence, KS with remote candidates being given equal consideration.


Job Description

75% - Primary responsibilities will be in one or more of the following areas:

  • Preparing customer communications: identify, develop, and edit external communications including recruitment materials, technical manuals, training materials, websites, meeting minutes, social media, and technical reports.
  • Entering and managing data and reports: enter/update project data, create and distribute statistical reports and surveys, maintain and publish web content, oversee report delivery to customers, coordinate focus groups and panels.
  • Organizing events/scheduling: schedule, host, and manage calls and meetings ranging from virtual, small group panels to 3-day, 120-participant training events, manage event logistics, create and manage event timelines, participate in cross-team meetings, manage calendar appointments, obtain venue space, liaise with vendors.
  • Coordinating projects: monitor timelines and deliverables, track expenditures and cost estimates, collaborate with internal and external team members to facilitate accomplishment of deliverables, and document internal procedures.
  • Coordinating online training: gather customer requirements, format audio and video recordings, build online training courses, manage course enrollment, troubleshoot customer issues and special projects, prepare and distribute reports.
  • Coordinating customer travel reimbursements and honorariums. Compile materials for submission, clarify issues with customer’s paperwork, and act as liaison between customers and KUCR.

Position Requirements

  • Due to COVID restrictions, this position will begin teleworking and may transition to on-site work when deemed safe and necessary.
  • This position may be a full time work from home (telework) position.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree OR high school diploma/GED and three or more years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum six months of prior experience with one of the primary responsibilities noted above.
  • One year experience using technology including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and/or other web-based systems as evidenced in application materials. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • More than six months of prior experience with more than one of the primary responsibilities: organizing events/scheduling, entering and managing data, preparing written communication materials, project coordination, building and managing online courses, or coordinating travel reimbursements and honorariums.
  • Experience designing courses in Moodle or other Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience developing interactive media and user experience within a learning management system using digital tools (e.g. Articulate Rise and Adobe Suite).
  • Deep experience with Excel.
  • Record of excellent customer service to clients in previous work environments.
  • One year experience prioritizing multiple projects to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt and respond to changes in work priorities and processes as evidenced from prior work experience.
  • Experience that required working both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment. 
  • Excellent attention to detail in written work as evidenced by application materials.

$38,000 to $48,000 depending on experience and qualifications
