Job Summary

The Space Radiation Laboratory (SRL) at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is soliciting applications for a Project Resource Analyst to support two NASA astrophysics missions; the Ultraviolet Explorer (UVEX), recently selected and under development for a launch in 2030, and the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) mission which has been operating in space since 2012. The Space Radiation Laboratory, part of the Physics, Math, and Astronomy Division at Caltech (www.caltech.edu), partners with NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL, operated for NASA by Caltech), and operation centers at UC-Berkeley, the Goddard Space Flight Center and an international research community to advance exploration of the universe.

Essential Job Duties

As the UVEX and NuSTAR project resource analyst the successful applicant will:

  • Develop budgets as a function of project phase in consultation with the Principal Investigator and Project Manager to support contract negotiations with NASA.
  • Track project expenditures for partner institutions, including completing 533 reporting for Caltech’s efforts, and collecting, analyzing, and reporting 533 reports from partner institutions.
  • Support the project as needed to provide inputs for Earned Value Management analyses.
  • Provide regular financial status update reports in custom format to the project managers and PI.
  • Participate in regular financial meetings with the project and NASA as required.
  • Prepare budgets for federal and foundation grant applications.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 8-10 years’ experience with budgeting and cost projections.
  • Project management Support.
  • Project resource analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with earned value management reporting.
  • Experience with scheduling software (Microsoft Project).
