We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.

Position Summary

Temporary, full time “non-exempt”, benefited position through 8/31/2025 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funds, availability of work and satisfactory job performance). 

Salary: $5,337.00 per month

Location: San Bernardino

Position and Program Summary: 

The person on this position will be a postdoc researcher focusing on identifying genetic and phenotypic responses over time and space, in altitudinal gradients. This project uses an introduced species to investigate the potential of range-shifts as a coping mechanism for plant populations responding to climate change. In the position of postdoctoral researcher, responsibilities include doing field work and collecting samples, developing experiments with plants in growth chambers, working closely with herbaria to have access to the temporal samples, conducting wet-lab work, bioinformatic analysis, writing scientific articles and presenting the results at different conferences. Additionally, this position involves lab management duties and mentoring of masters and undergraduate students working in the project. The selected candidate will also coordinate outreach activities within campus and with local schools. Finally, there is the possibility to assist in course preparation. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a leadership role and enjoys mentoring students. Other important skills are keeping the lab well organized and running smoothly. Overall, we are looking for previous leadership experience, excellent communication, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm for learning new skills.

Finally, the selected candidate will work at the biology Department at College of Natural Sciences at CSUSB. This person will be in charge of managing Dr. López lab, taking care of the greenhouse experiments, doing field work and wet lab experiments. Moreover, the postdoctoral researcher will be involved in outreach activities representing the Biology Department. 

Work Schedule

40 hours per week. Monday thought Friday, 8am to 5pm. Weekends and nights might be required.

Typical Activities

1. Assists principal investigator (PI) in attaining the goals of specified research by participating in research planning, proposal writing and lab management.

2. Prepares complete documentation of research activities for reference purposes, including following applicable data management protocols.

3. Carries out research and data analysis as agreed upon with the project´s PI.

4. Participates in the preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication as co-author or sole author.

5. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

6. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or seminars as directed by the faculty member or department head.

7. Helps to assure the success of the department by performing all other duties as assigned (e.g., mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers, assist in teaching classes).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: PHD
  • Experience: 
    • The candidate must have documented success in publishing in the field of evolutionary ecology. Additionally, the candidate must have experience collecting field data, doing wet lab work (i.e., DNA extractions, library preparation, etc.), carrying out bioinformatic analysis and presenting research results at conferences.  
  • Other: 
    • The selected candidate must have expertise working in a team, have excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal and mentoring skills. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate ability to acquire accurate, reproducible data.  Finally, the candidate must have excellent project/time management skills and advocate for safety and ethics in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with museomics, genetics of herbarium samples.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
