Project Program Manager for the Wisconsin Chips Initiative

Wisconsin Chips Initiative seeks to leverage existing expertise and cultivate new capabilities in semiconductor materials, devices, and design technologies at UW-Madison. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the seamless translation of innovations from laboratory research to fabrication (lab to fab). Establishing this capability at UW-Madison will position the university for leadership in securing significant funding opportunities, fostering effective workforce development, and fostering collaborations with industrial partners to facilitate the transition from prototyping to fabrication.
As a Project Program Manager for the Wisconsin Chips Initiative, the successful candidate will be the primary contact point. Key responsibilities include supporting daily activities, engaging with stakeholders, planning industry-related events, coordinating speaker engagements (from industry, academia, and national labs), providing support for proposal writing and award management, establishing connections with potential industry partners, and overseeing the budgets and logistics of the initiative. This role also includes managing the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program when operational and overseeing any related outreach activities.

• 20% Creates a program plan and structure, monitors progress and performance against the program plan, and identifies, resolves, or escalates program risks and issues
• 15% Leads and manages efforts to determine and coordinate the sharing of resources among component projects to the overall benefit of the program
• 5% Manages the activities of outside contractors and vendors to ensure they are integrated into the program and that the organization receives satisfactory standards of service
• 10% Facilitates the estimation of program costs, resources, and time required to complete the overall program, monitors activities and budgets, directs and leads component project manager activities for consistency and alignment, and works with program leadership to ensure these targets are met. Follows established change control processes if targets can no longer be met
• 15% Prepares regular reports to communicate the status of the program within and beyond the program team, communicates program goals, risks, and status with program executive level, program sponsors, and stakeholders, and develops and uses appropriate dashboards, measures, and reporting tools
• 15% Sets priorities, allocates tasks, and collaborates with project staff to meet program targets and milestones. Manages the change control process and acts as the mid-level decision making authority
• 10% Support for the Wisconsin Chips Initiative activities including workshops/seminar, coordinating internal and external resources to achieve initiative goals.
• 10% Support proposal-writing activities.

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Required in STEM, preferably in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related field

Master's Degree

Required qualifications:
- 1 year project management experience.
- Familiarity with semiconductor technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in semiconductor industry
- Experience supporting/leading end-to-end proposal-submission process in academia or in industry.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders to define strategy and requirements to define and execute a collection of projects across a function / initiative.
- Evidence of playing a role that drove positive change management via planning, communications, and relationship management; partnered with multiple internal cross-functional teams and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to listen, influence, negotiate, and mitigate conflict while building relationships achieving desired results

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
