Under general supervision, the Project Manager will play a key role in driving two specific projects for the Horticulture Innovation Lab - its activities in Guinea Bissau and in Niger. Additionally, this role will be assigned internal projects within the Management Entity including analysis of project outcomes and drafting reports and information deliverables. The Project Manager will also play a key role in the development of various extension material for the Horticulture Innovation Lab in support of internal activities (such as its GenderUp training program) and partner project activities. This role will demand some flexibility in moving among project-oriented activities as well as being willing to support the administrative tasks of the Horticulture Innovation Lab and the international projects within the network. The Project Manager in their role will assist the Innovation Lab in monitoring project progress within the framework of its Monitoring and Evaluation Plan and specifically lead in the implementation of the Monitoring and Evaluation Plan for projects in Niger and Guinea Bissau, with potential for filling this role for other Horticulture Innovation Lab sub awards. The Project Manager will also assist in helping the Innovation Lab reach programmatic goals by coordinating meetings, collecting and tracking data, drafting reports, helping make sure the Innovation Lab and its projects are following USAID and UC Davis guidelines, and assisting the Innovation Lab staff in responding to administrative tasks assigned to us by USAID. The Project Manager will also be expected to contribute to the pursuit of new grant opportunities, including assisting in drafting applications and budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in international development, business administration, management, agriculture, or related field.

  • Experience in working with a variety of people to gather needed information, solve problems and produce news materials. Skills to communicate articulately, verbally and in writing;

  • Experience working effectively and collaboratively with diverse individuals from various public agencies, universities and organizations throughout the United Stated and around the world;

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
  • Strong skills to produce clearly written, accurate and organized materials. Including skills to use language accurately and creatively, to recognize and use correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation;

  • Ability to navigate requirements from more than one institutional system, including identifying an effective path forward when these requirements conflict; Familiarity with Microsoft suite of programs;

  • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and international development concepts or issues;

  • Familiarity with the use of remote meeting software (Zoom preferably).

Preferred:
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Masters Degree in international development, business administration, management, agriculture, or related field.

  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation including developing strategies to measure programmatic impact; project management experience; experience maintaining a project budget;

  • Previous experience engaging with USAID funded initiatives; experience presenting at conferences;

  • Experience using software designed to collect quantitative and qualitative data; some work experience in agriculture for development, ideally with experience working in some capacity in the horticulture space;

  • Experience in leading implementation of an event, training, and/or workshop

  • Skills in data analysis (experience in R, use of qualitative analysis software such as Nvivo or Atlasti).

  • International travel experience; experience drafting, refining, editing complex reports, grant applications, white papers, and other information deliverables

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
  • Understanding of USAID and UC guidelines
