Job Summary

The Senior Space Projects Manager serves as a key member of the School of Medicine’s Space Strategy Team. In addition to working closely with the Director of Space Strategy to provide SOM faculty and staff with space management and guidance, the Senior Space Projects Manager (SSPM) will develop and implement an array of complex data and analytics related projects including vital data creation, analysis, and space management systems development work. The SSPM will also work closely with the Space Strategy Team to champion the space administrative goals of the school and provide critical data analysis and consultation to school leadership.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitate the collection and input of verifiable and reliable SOM space assignment, occupancy, and utilization data.
  • Development of analytical/procedural tools to support the implementation of SOM space policy.
  • Application of existing and new space utilization metrics to evaluate efficiency of space use and inform request/option analysis.
  • Champion improvements to existing space management systems. Collaborate with campus and department partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new space management systems.

Department Description

The School of Medicine currently occupies over two million assignable square feet of space and is working with campus entities to plan significant additions and renovations in the next few years. Accountable and responsible management of this space is a considerable task and a strategic priority for the school. The Senior Space Projects Manager is a new position created to support a team-based approach to managing the school’s more than two million square feet of space. This position will report to the Director of Space Strategy and become a part of the unit for Space Strategy headed by Space Advisor to the Dean, Bruce Wintroub.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area (e.g., architecture, science, public policy, administration, business operations, project management) and 5 years directly related experience and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and faculty and influence, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work with demanding timeframes
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills
  • Ability to research, synthesize and present large amounts of data
  • Ability to communicate complex options and analyses to a variety of audience types
  • Ability of exercise excellent judgment, act with integrity, and provide responsive customer service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Tableau, Smartsheet
  • Knowledge of graphics software and tools (Revit, Bluebeam, Illustrator)
  • Knowledge of space management programs such as Archibus, ArcGIS, and F&A Cost Recovery & Space Benchmarking System (aka ICR Benchmarking)
