Job Description Summary:
Responsible for directing a research, outreach or services project(s) within a department, such as clinical trials or major software application upgrades, including managing the budget. Works with staff to develop a variety of services and technical support.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's degree in public health or related degree with experience working on community based projects and clinical trials.

Work Experience:

  • Between 5-10 years of experience managing NIH, CDC, and other foundation grants.
  • Experience writing scientific content as evidenced in application materials.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Experience with computer applications for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, analysis, reports and presentations as evidenced in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in public health, psychology, health education, or related fields.

Work Experience:

  • Experience with project management at KUMC or other academic institutions.
  • Experience with HR procedures.
  • Experience working in low resource settings in the US or globally.  

Skills:

  • Spanish language skills.
  • Strong social media and technology skills.
  • Managing more than one project/ study at a time.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Evaluate field staff performance.
  • Monitor compliance with key project/study milestones or targets and review data collection for quality control.
  • Supervise staff, which include research assistants/ associates and students. Verify that project/study staff are following study protocols and take corrective action as needed.
  • Prepare IRB submissions and maintain compliance of IRB documents at KUMC and help collaborators prepare external IRB materials, if necessary.
  • Direct weekly meetings for project management and intervention development. Report to Principal Investigator and Co-Is on the status of the project.
  • Assist with development of data collection instruments and study intervention tools, oversee recruitment plans and processes.
  • Draft a variety of scientific/academic documents including grant sections, reports, abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Prepare non-fiscal aspects of quarterly and annual grant reports that respond to requirements of the University of Kansas Medical Center's Research Administration Office, the National Institutes of Health or other key funders.
  • Implement forms and procedures related to the research project(s). Assist with the design and development of survey instruments.
  • Support Support data management for projects/studies. Working knowledge of data management programs for quantitative (e.g. RedCap, SPSS, Excel) and qualitative data (e.g. Dedoose).
  • Engage community, academic, and industry partners to build and maintain relationships.
  • Organize and participate in scientific and community advisory board meetings. This may require domestic travel to meet with community partners. Maximum expected travel is 5-10% FTE.
