The Task Force for Global Health is an Emory University affiliate located in Decatur, GA. Its eight programs focus on building durable public health systems that serve all people. Focus areas include neglected tropical diseases, vaccines, and health systems strengthening. The Task Force received the 2016 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize–the world's largest award of its kind–in recognition of its extraordinary contributions to alleviating human suffering.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- The Project Manager is assigned to program-specific projects that incorporate multiple activities or mini-projects.
- Ensures that all assigned projects are completed on time and within budget, working with the Project Director to ensure the projects meet their goals.
- Supports the senior executive team (Director, Deputy Director, and Business Unit Directors), Project Directors, and other team members in developing deliverables and sets an appropriate expectation level for these deliverables.
- Ensures external project participants (for example, grantees, partners, subject matter experts, and meeting participants) are engaged and are informed of the status and direction of project activities.
- May prepare financial and program reports as required by funding partners.
- May assist in writing grants and in finding new funding opportunities.
- May represent and promote their projects at various speaking engagements.
- Ensures that the projects they manage are in compliance with federal and/or private foundation rules and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree in a field related to specific program as indicated and six years of program related experience, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. One (1) to two (2) years of experience in creating project plans and experience in all phases of the IT lifecycle.
- Previous experience (at least 2-3 years) in public health, public health informatics, or health IT.
Project Implementation:
- Works with the Directors and Project Leads to define scope of a project, coordinate and carry our programmatic activities.
- Establishes priorities, develops work plans, tracks and reports progress based on knowledge of program needs and direction; meets associated deadlines
- Assists in the management, tracking and updates of current portfolio
- Provides project management support to the team and others using the project management tool
- Documents project work plan/timeline, resources needs, resource expectations, key milestone dates and tracks project process
- Ensures the projects are driven to meet the contract deliverables and grant milestones, program related documents are up to date, well organized, easily accessible to colleagues, and properly safeguarded against loss or misuse within the repository and project management tool.
- Updates “deliverables” database to accurately record major program deliverables that will facilitate reporting to support internal and external partners.
- Creates status reports for distribution to project team and external partners
- Updates activities and modifies deliverable dates as needed
Participates in the resolution of project management related issues
Resource Management:
- Creates contracts for projects & consultants as needed
- Identifies subcontractors in countries and provides guidance on reporting, payment and the implementation of activities
- Approves expense reports and manages detailed budget
- Works with the financial management staff to provide information for financial reports.
- Creates, submits, and processes invoices
- Helps ensure adherence to operational, administrative standards operating procedures
Collaboration:
- Meets regularly with the project team to review all current projects and escalates issues to supervisor as needed
- Builds and nurtures relationships with consultants and external partners by interacting through email, phone calls, meetings, and/or in-person visits
- Ability to maintain effectiveness and adaptability when working with operations, research, and finance teams
- Corresponds with external colleagues, collaborators and stakeholders
- Facilitates communications, organization and delivers operational excellence
Staff Development:
- Attends conferences/meetings and reviews literature in order to stay abreast of current knowledge and issues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s of Public Health in a field related to the program
- At least 3 years of experience working in international public health programs
- Previous experience working in specific programmatic area
- Demonstrated excellence in organization, writing, and project management.
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills, especially in cross-cultural settings
- Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to work independently in a fast-paced environment to achieve results.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, and
- thoroughness of information and data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Prior experience in donor and partner relations
- Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills; high attention to detail and quality
- Working knowledge of either French or Spanish
- Previous experiences living and/or working in an international setting
- Experience working with global non-profits
