Summary

The Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) is the home of the University of Michigan?s Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health. MICHR is part of a national, collaborative consortium that is focused on bringing more health solutions to all people more quickly by advancing clinical and translational science (CTS). The field of CTS aims to build an evidence base of scientific and operational approaches that improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and impact of translational research across a range of diseases and conditions. MICHR has the unique charge of examining the translational research ecosystem at a systems level to determine where common pitfalls exist; developing novel solutions to these challenges; demonstrating their effectiveness; and disseminating improvements widely. MICHR is a dynamic organization that serves as a hub of innovation and experimentation to advance research in the science of translation and accelerate the realization of interventions that improve human health.

MICHR is seeking an experienced project manager to support a wide range of projects and operational initiatives across MICHR. The individual in this position is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating projects of varying size and complexity.

Responsibilities*
  • Oversight of complex projects for work conducted across MICHR 
  • Application of project management skills and tools to lead and facilitate the execution of projects of a broad scope and complex nature by a cross-functional team of technical professionals
  • Management, performance, and completion of assigned projects
  • Development of detailed work plans, schedules, and status reports
  • Conducting project meetings (internal and external)
  • Analyzing project issues and ensuring resolution
  • Managing project budget(s)
  • Communication of progress, risks, expectations, timelines, milestones, and other key project metrics to clients and team members
  • Providing internal project reporting during regularly scheduled and ad hoc project review meetings with the managing director(s). Reporting may include project quality, budget, project effort and duration, client and team satisfaction, and other key project metrics
  • Providing project management leadership and guidance to less experienced staff
  • When necessary, working with external contractors in addition to internal resources
  • Providing leadership in the development of project management skills across MICHR
  • Providing leadership and guidance to staff assigned to be project leads for MICHR projects

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two to four years of project management experience
  • Experience with a variety of project management platforms
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, inclusive, collaborative and effective manner

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's degree
  • Five or more years of project management experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Note: This position is hybrid, with occasional travel to Ann Arbor, MI required. 


Additional Information

This is a 3-year term-limited appointment.  At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.


Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
