Who we are  

The Provost IT Office provides information technology support for the Provost Office and all units that report to the Provost except for academic and Division of Information Technology units and offices. The Provost IT Office services 48 offices. PITO is responsible for the management of IT operations and provides IT services and support, information system design, IT consultation, project management, IT security reviews, and IT contracts and vendor management. The office manages and maintains more than 1,400 desktops across 13 buildings on campus. Through Instructional Media Services, the department supports AV in 181 classrooms and 22 conference rooms in 35 buildings across Texas A&M.

The Provost IT Office is seeking a Project Manager I, who will be responsible for managing projects for Enrollment & Academic Services. The Project Manager I, will manage project activities including developing, implementing, tracking timelines and deliverables, and providing periodic evaluations and reports for projects that are generally medium in scope. This individual will coordinate project resources in conjunction with resource holders and other project managers. The Project Manager I, manages projects that the problem and solution may be defined moderate to achieve. Time management, critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work as a motivated self-starter are all attributes of our ideal candidate. Salary Range: $40,712.00 - $52,312.00 annually (Based on selected hire’s qualifications)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience in project management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of the discipline of Project Management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project software.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be proficient in technical writing.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology related field.
  • More than three years of professional experience in Project Manager role.
  • Some professional experience in a higher education setting.

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or other Project Management Certification.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification.

  • Proficiency in Project Management tools.

Responsibilities:

  • IT Project Management - Serves as a project manager for various projects in the Provost Information Technology Project Management Office. Uses established project management protocols, as documented in the established methodology, to establish project goals. Provides leadership, direction, management, and coaching on project-specific tasks such as vendor selection, contract negotiation, project lifecycle, and project portfolio alignment in accordance with best practices and project management standards. Coordinates with stakeholders to determine information needs and requirements to develop the project mission and vision, goals, plans, timelines, resource estimates, and schedules for various projects. Leads the planning, execution, and successful completion of concurrent IT projects. Utilizes project management knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to assist with Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Communications and Risk Management. Provides input on designated budget that usually has a minor impact on financial revenue and expenses. Tracks project issues, action items, deliverables, and timelines. Creates and maintains project charters, project plans and scope change requests. Coordinates project resources and provides resource estimates and progress reports to management on an on-going basis. Manages assigned projects from concept to close-out and works closely with project sponsors, teams, and other stakeholders to meet project goals. Participates in training and professional development sessions and may serve on committees to develop technical standards and direction. Continues to learn about the various areas of complex computing and/or networking environment. Assists in the continual development and maintenance of a change management plan(s) for projects as well as existing systems and services. Reduces risk and costs associated with change. Plays a key role in ensuring change initiatives meet business, schedule, budget, and technology objectives or constraints. Assists in the monitoring, assessment, reporting, and control of change including changes to business processes, systems and technology, job roles and organization structures. Researches problems and recommends solutions for customers.
  • Analysis - Assesses client needs through direct interaction, mapping current and future business process, and looking for opportunities to develop and improve the business through the effective use of technology.  Creates detailed functional and technical system specifications. Provides consultative service and support to customers using various software applications (custom in-house, third-party, and mainstream applications). Performs both business process re-engineering and analysis of the work process as needed. Maintains expertise in complex software applications. Participates in customer problem tracking as pertains to ongoing projects. Conducts data analyses to fulfill routine reporting to sponsor, routine management activities to include project metrics and project health reporting, and special information needs within the scope of contracts. Compiles quantitative and qualitative reports for submission to project sponsors.
  • Project Communication & Documentation Effectively communicates relevant project information to project sponsors, stakeholders, and supervisors. Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations. Uses a wide-range of communication practices to deliver sensitive or difficult information with tact and professionalism. Completes all required project documentation and reports for clients and/or management. Facilitates team and stakeholder meetings to guide project implementation. Provides technical analysis, reporting and documentation of the Operations and Development environments as pertains to projects, quality assurance, and change management processes. Specifically collects, documents and catalogs project data. Surveys and analyzes new technologies and prepares executive summaries for evaluation.
  • Quality Assurance - Manages project quality control and assurance. Ensures all work is accurate and in compliance with departmental or project quality standards. Ensures the Provost Information Technology Office meets the needs and expectations of stakeholders and customers through data collection and utilization of data analysis to improve projects, processes and/or services. Ensures the continual development and advises maintenance of a quality assurance plan(s). Conducts surveys, audits, and reports findings. Evaluates overall project performance and evaluates existing systems/services to determine if they satisfy relevant quality standards. Ensures continuous quality improvement with a focus on improving customer satisfaction and business productivity. Performs other duties as assigned.
