This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Moores Cancer Center and remote.

The Moores Cancer Center is one of just 52 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. This position will involve coordination of a secondary data analysis project that aims to analyze population-level data to examine racial/ethnic disparities in cigarette smoking and marijuana use. Under the direction of the principal investigator (PI), responsibilities of the Research Program Coordinator include coordinating and overseeing day-to-day operations of the project; organizing and facilitating project meetings and travel; assisting with the writing of peer-reviewed manuscripts, policy briefs, and study progress reports; assisting with the preparation of IRB and grant applications; maintaining all project publication files, including review and editing of all drafts of manuscripts and correspondence with journals; and preparing oral and poster presentations for scientific meetings.

  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic research setting. 2+ years of experience working with public health and/or health education and research programs. Good understanding of contract and grant proposal formats, preparation, submission and administration.

  • Experience writing peer-reviewed manuscripts, grants, and grant progress reports.

  • Skill in independently researching compiling, organizing, interpreting and selecting data and materials from various sources.

  • Experience providing literature reviews to gain understanding for scientific background on projects.

  • Experience providing administrative support. Experience with scheduling and coordinating events, seminars and meetings as well as travel.

  • Experience conducting data analyses on various projects. Proven ability to utilize spreadsheets and databases to interpret and organize resource and research information.

  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs. Working knowledge of computing software and applications for word-processing, spreadsheets, database processing, presentations, web and publication design, and calendaring (e.g. Microsoft Office suite, Adobe suite, Google Apps, etc.).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.

  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Excellent diplomacy and tact to effectively work with a diverse group at all levels of the organization, including staff, students, UC faculty, governmental officials, diplomats, and business community leaders.

  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.

  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing. Proven ability to write technical and non-technical materials with quickly and accurately on an unusually broad range of subjects under tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.

  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Skill in organizing and setting up files with cross-references for easy retrieval and reference. Ability to quickly determine subject matter of material for proper dissemination and handing.

  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of University policies and procedures. Knowledge of UC and UCSD Internal Review Board policies, procedures and practices.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,700 - $97,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.16 - $46.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
