PROJECT MANAGER - HSI STEM METAS (GRANT-FUNDED)
MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Reporting to the Director-Grants Administration, the Project Manager - HSI STEM METAS (Math Engineering Technology Apoyo) is responsible for leading the implementation of the HSI STEM grant-funded program.  The HSI STEM Program is designed to increase the number of Latinx students enrolled in college and in STEM fields. It aims to ensure students from underrepresented backgrounds and communities have access to opportunities that will help them reach their STEM career goals and secure a well-paying job in the workforce.

This position works with key staff and external partners as part of an ongoing effort to create access to quality STEM post-secondary education for adult education students across Chicago and will act as a senior project manager for implementation of the HSI STEM METAS efforts. 

This is a grant funded position, ending September 30, 2026

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Organizes and monitors METAS teams for adherence to project goals/timeline. Evaluates progress on an on-going basis and provides Adult Education leadership with project revisions as necessary to meet targets.
    • Leads and coordinates the success of the Department of Education-HSI STEM program expansion by facilitating the process of prioritization, implementation, monitoring and intervening where appropriate.
    • Proactively identifies issues that could impact the successful execution of the projects, elevates those issues about which the Director should be aware and frames/positions ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risk while creatively identifying alternative means of handling pressing issues.
    • Supports the development of a sustainable model for HSI STEM METAS program, working closely with Centers of Excellence leadership. 
    • Conducts analysis, prepares presentations, produces reports, memos and briefs on progress and outcomes of project initiatives.
    • Provides reliable, detail-oriented project management expertise to ensure that planned initiatives achieve their objectives and that all necessary stakeholders are included in the process.
    • Creates comprehensive project plans, including necessary inputs, critical stakeholders, milestones, deliverables, and evaluation plans.
    • Coordinates and monitors project execution including proactively anticipating and solving problems, and tracking and reporting on results.
    • Tracks progress against milestones and resolves any challenges or barriers in collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
    • Effectively communicates project expectations and updates to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
    • Supports and advises leadership in the development and execution of new projects within the scope of this expansion.
    • Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

    • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public policy, education, or a related field. Master's degree in public policy, education, or related field preferred
    • Three years of program or project administration work experience within Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI’s) and/or STEM preferred
    • A combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration based on the applicant’s credentials, provided the minimum degree requirement is met
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing and managing grant funded projects in a complex organization with many different stakeholders possessing different perspectives, assets, and challenges
    • Experience leading projects or programs from concept through implementation
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
    • Ability to think critically and creatively
    • Ability to work effectively in team-based settings and within a culturally diverse environment
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the capacity to multi-task and prioritize efforts across multiple simultaneous projects
    • Must possess a student-centered orientation
    • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
    • Strong data analysis skills using MS Excel and other data analysis tools as needed
    • Strong presentation skills using tools such as MS PowerPoint
