Position Summary
The Project Manager is responsible for the supervision of design and construction for new and renovation projects, assuring quality, schedule, code, budget and safety compliance on the project.
This position has the option to work a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remote.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with University departments to develop project scope and budgets. Manages and coordinates the design and construction firms to deliver the projects. Prepares and reviews contracts, change orders and applications for payment for contractors and designers, assuring proper percentage and documentation. Reviews plans and specifications. University representative who works with governing agencies assuring all regulations and building codes are followed by the designers and contractors. Inspects construction work for conformance to the University plans, specifications and standards, and assesses quality of work being performed. Represents and coordinates the relationship and work between the contractor and the University.
  • Reviews and approves shop drawings, reviews preliminary drawings and specifications for University compliance and departmental needs. Receives and reviews operation and maintenance manuals, as-built drawings. Prepares resolutions for funding.
  • Arranges with University departments all shutdowns, tie-ins, hours when not in use, and occupancy.
  • Plans for future buildings, assuring that the needs of departments involved are represented.
  • Inspects for safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree - Masters or Doctoral degree with a focus on building science/sustainability/architecture/engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE and green building related guidelines and standards, including the WELL rating system and the Living Building Challenge. Previous experience managing the LEED certification administration process for a project(s) is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of building codes.
  • Experience with building commissioning.
  • Experience facilitating meetings and teams towards common goals.
  • Process management skills and experience.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Experience working with and motivating design professionals and contractors.
  • Self-motivated, responsible, mature and articulate.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Ability to organize time and priorities to be most productive.
  • A broad working knowledge of the design and construction industry, with a focus on sustainability, to assess quality of the work being performed.
  • Ability to make judgments on acceptability, proper means and methods of design and construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior level managers and a variety of key stakeholders in the public, non-profit and private sectors.
  • Demonstrated professional experience with building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture/engineering with an emphasis on sustainable and high-performance design, with five (5) or more years of progressive experience and responsibility in design and construction.
  • Previous project management experience is required.
  • REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: LEED Accredited Professional.

Salary Range
$82,500.00 - $145,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
