Job Summary
Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking candidates for the position of Task Manager. The individual selected for this position will be working in a project management role with the DCSITE program.
The Auburn University Detection Canine Sciences, Innovation, Technology and Education (DCSITE) program will serve as the primary academic resource to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for expertise in all areas of detection canine sciences. The DCSITE program will integrate best scientific practices in analytical chemistry, genetics, genomics, reproduction, veterinary and sports medicine, olfactory neuroscience, behavior and cognition, metrology and engineering to advance detection canine sciences. Reporting to the Detection Canine Science, Technology and Education (DCSITE) Program Manager (PM), the Task Manager manages and monitors a diverse research and development portfolio of projects lead by DCSITE Co-PIs at Auburn University, and involving multiple external subcontracted institutions, focusing capabilities on mission-driven national security initiatives. Working with the PM, the Task Manager facilitates program operations, monitors budgets, and reports to and conveys programmatic status and progress to the DCSITE PM.

This is a two (2) year limited term position. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of funding.

Formal AU title: DCSITE Task Manager
Essential Functions
  • Manages DCSITE research and development initiatives as assigned by the PM related to: domestic production and development of next-generation detector dogs, odor presentation science/training aid development, evaluation and selection of detector dogs, or canine handler best practices, canine handler/team proficiency assessments; and canine welfare and longevity.
  • Ensures that assigned projects meet quality, budget, and timeline objectives, including identification and realization of project milestones, development of key deliverables, risk assessment, and problem solving.
  • Coordinates team meetings, purchasing, and development of reports.
  • Develops operational protocols as necessary to ensure regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Documents task-related progress as necessary to meet reporting requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree – No specific major.
  • 6 years of experience in complex project management.

8 years of experience may substitute for a degree.
