Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Project Director for the U.S. Department of Education Rural Postsecondary & Economic Development Program Grant at Alfred State College serves as the lead on the work related to this 4-year grant designed to: increase career exploration and college preparation opportunities for middle and high school students from rural schools, boost college retention, performance, graduation, and post-completion employment for the target population of students from rural secondary schools across the Western and Southern Tier regions of New York.  The award period for the grant is January 2024 through December 2027. Responsibilities include:

Oversight, Implementation, and Assessment of Activities Related to the Grant Outcomes

  • Prepare internal and external reports and share with appropriate audiences including the ASC Executive Leadership Team (ELT)  
  • Monitor the implementation of all RPED activities and objectives
  • Implement data collection, analysis, and reporting processes to inform decisions-making and ensure the project can be assessed with validity
  • Work with internal faculty and staff to monitor, assess, and report of RPED initiatives, both those efforts funded by RPED and those funded by ASC
  • Arrange for external evaluation of the project's effectiveness and expenditures in alignment with the proposal
  • Monitor and track all aspects of the RPED program including non-RPED funded activities

Coordinate Activities with Rural Middle & High Schools and County & Industry Partners

  • Coordinate rural student success initiatives focused on initiatives at all phases of the student cycle: 6-12th grades, application and pre-enrollment, transition to college, transition to workforce, and alumni
  • Monitor development of additional dual degree programs
  • Coordinate with partner schools for career exploration and college preparation needs (financial aid assistance, college preparation, college visits, etc.)
  • Coordinate Summer Middle School Program
  • Coordinate the Rural Educators Conference at ASC (Yr2)
  • Attend CCA Rural Educators Academy
  • Work with K-12 schools to encourage and award school career exploration and college prep activities and grants

Recruitment & Retention Activities

  • Oversee installation of the Parent Communication software in collaboration with the First Year Experience Coordinator
  • Attend ASC New Student Orientation and connect with rural students and families
  • Attend ASC Open Houses and connect with rural students and families
  • Promote 'Stay for 4' for Alfred students and faculty working with Admissions

Budget, Leadership, and Administration

  • Maintain the RPED project budget and oversee expenditures in alignment with the objectives of the grant, and Alfred State and federal fiscal policies
  • Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate all program staff
  • Apply a 'best practices' approach to rural student success initiatives and assesses strategies for improvement
  • Prepare a policies and procedures manual
  • Lead the RPED ASC Leadership Team
  • Communicate RPED strategies and outcomes to key stakeholders
  • Lead the RPED Advisory Council

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, Masters degree preferred
  • 4-6 years experience in K-12 schools, school districts, or in higher education
  • Demonstrated administrative, fiscal, and grant experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across campus including faculty, staff, and students
  • Data gathering, reporting, analysis experience sufficient to prepare project reports and analyze outcomes

The starting salary for this position is $67,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
