Job Summary

The Project Coordinator applies professional concepts to conduct analytical studies or projects of moderate scope and complexity to address a variety of policy, research and procedural issues. Fully analyzes issues and problems, gathers data and information, finds and evaluates alternatives and makes sound recommendations.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry currently seeks a Project Coordinator who will assist Project Leaders and will work under general supervision to assist in the Departmental and P.I. research and community programs.  The Project Coordinator will utilize organizational, communication, technical and coordination skills in addition to analytical skills.  The individual will also be responsible for simultaneous communication, coordination, and tracking of deliverables for several research programs; and for supporting their implementation activities, as well as organizing and executing meetings and events.  Projects may include: website re-design, philanthropic endeavors and/or developing departmental process improvement plans.

***NOTE: This is a FT 1-year Hybrid (2 days required onsite) Contract role.

Department Description

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a research and teaching department in the School of Pharmacy (SOP) at UCSF.  We explore fundamental biological mechanisms and molecules of therapeutic relevance for better health, empowered by novel technologies at the interface of chemistry, physics, and computational sciences. 

The Department consists of 45 faculty, 15 joint faculty, 51 Academic (Professional Researchers & Specialists), 60 postdoctoral scholars, 56 graduate students and 49 staff and has a dedicated team of administrators who are responsible for providing high-level financial and administrative operational support to faculty, staff and learners.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and one year of experience and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
