Lab and Project Description
Research program in the lab examines: 1) bio-psycho-social and biobehavioral models in older adults due to aging and diseases, e.g., long-COVID, by investigating the interconnections amongst biomarkers, loneliness, social connectedness/isolation and cognitive impairment, and 2) the feasibility, efficacies and mechanisms of non-pharmacological interventions, e.g., mindfulness and nature-based interventions. Director of the lab is Dr. Ted K.S. Ng, Assistant Professor (https://search.asu.edu/profile/4003094 ) .This position represents an excellent opportunity for aspiring biobehavioral aging health researchers to be involved in a transdisciplinary project and be at the forefront of research in this area. The candidate will also work closely and receive mentorship from Dr. Ng. He/she/they will be supported to apply for graduate schools.
With co-investigators affiliated with the Biodesign Institute and the School of Social Work at ASU, in this trial, we will examine the bio-psycho-social effects of a nature-based intervention in older adults with long-COVID and brain fog. This pilot trial will generate findings to inform a future NIH R01 proposal, of which the candidate can play a role in. At least four papers have been planned. Depending upon the commitment and motivation levels of the candidate, he/she/they can be involved as a co-/lead author in all or some of the papers planned.
