The Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance Network, or CHAMPS, is a global health surveillance network aimed at preventing childhood mortality in developing countries, particularly in Africa and South Asia. The CHAMPS network is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to increase understanding of how, where and why children become ill and die enabling scientists and public health leaders implement public health action across CHAMPS is envisioned to be a long-term surveillance program targeting countries with high child mortality rates in South Asia and Africa. CHAMPS has ongoing mortality surveillance activities at nine sites. CHAMPS collaborates with government ministries and local and regional stakeholders/partnerships providing technical and financial assistance.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Manages a project.
  • Coordinates the strategic planning process and monitors progress toward achieving project goals.
  • Assists in developing, administering and monitoring project related budgets.
  • Coordinates logistical arrangements for related conferences, conventions or meetings.
  • May assist in identifying funding resources and in developing funding strategies and initiatives.
  • Develops and generates various operational and statistical reports.
  • Represents and promotes the project at various speaking engagements.
  • May write grants, reports, briefings, newsletters, promotional or other written material related to the project.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

The Project Coordinator position is responsible for site coordination and communication, analytic projects, and project management support working in coordination with leadership and staff in the Program Office and CHAMPS Network leaders and staff.
Job Responsibilities:


Site Coordination, Communication and Project Management

  • Serves as technical and analytic resource for site strategy and implementation activities.
  • Collaborates with team members to analyze data and conduct descriptive analysis, identifies and processes analytic information, uses graphs and other methods to create data visualizations, and creates reports and presentations based on findings.
  • Coordinates and provides project management support to site program managers for implementation of CHAMPS mortality surveillance protocol through regular check-ins and using a variety of implementation tools, including monthly site calls, bi-monthly Network Steering Committee meetings.
  • Coordinates and manages CHAMPS site communication and the learning network platform.
  • Coordinates mortality surveillance implementation and site work plans and activity tracking.
  • Coordinates and facilitates site team meetings.
  • Coordinates and develops site management communications and reports.
  • Coordinates and manages site Network meetings.
  • Prepares notes and identifies decisions and actions from key meetings.
  • Identifies and anticipates issues/challenges that require escalation to leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related project management experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience coordinating medium to large projects in public health or other social science fields.
  • Knowledge of and experience with project management processes, tools, and systems.
  • Superior organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong oral, writing and interpersonal skills.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work.  Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
