This Temporary appointment can be concluded prior to the stated temporary appointment end date, normally with a two-week notice period. Continuation of this temporary appointment is contingent upon grant funding.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$9082.00 per month ($108,984.00 annual) 

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary


Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, this AAIS III/Project Coordinator will be responsible for but not limited to serving as a statewide resource for the education of deafblind infants, children, and young adults; conducting technical assistance and training activities for educational teams, families, and public and private agencies; and coordination and completion of grant management, including grant development, coordination of activities, evaluation of goals and objectives, budget oversight, and completion of required reports.

Position Information


Program Goals and Activities - 
  • Conduct technical assistance for educational teams serving children who are deafblind and families with children who are deafblind.
  • Conduct training activities for educational teams serving children who are deafblind and families with children who are deafblind.
  • Conduct pre-service training for university teacher training programs in deafblindness and  related fields.
  • Submit papers/proposals and conduct training at regional, state, and national conferences on evidence-based strategies in the field of deafblindness.
  • Conduct training on etiologies associated with deafblindness.
  • Conduct intervener training through the SFSU College of Extended Studies Intervener Training Certificate Program.
  • Conduct systems change activities in collaboration with federal and state agencies, school districts, public and private agencies, and family organizations.
  • Coordinate the production of California Deafblind Service (CDBS) products, including print and electronic materials.
  • Maintain professional reference library.
  • Maintain understanding of research-based and evidence-based practices in the field of deafblindness, and promising/emerging practices as applicable.

Maintain understanding of state and federal legislation, regulations, and policies that affect the education of children who are deafblind.


Program Administration -
  • Prepare and submit grant applications, annual grant performance reports, and final performance reports.
  • Conduct project evaluation activities required by the project funder (i.e., U.S. Dept. of Educations, Office of Special Education Programs).
  • Facilitate communication between CDBS and the Project Officer at the U.S. Dept. of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.
  • Facilitate communication between CDBS and the California Department of Education, Special Education Division.
  • Conduct and compile formative and summative evaluation measures of project effectiveness.
  • Conduct state census of children who are deaf-blind, compile data and certify for submission to funder.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly program planning meetings.
  • Plan and facilitate annual meeting of the CDBS Advisory Committee.
  • Represent CDBS on activities of the national deafblind network as directed by funder.
  • Coordinate collaborative activities with the National Center on Deafblindness as directed by funder.
  • Perform duties related to hiring project personnel as needed, including special consultants.
  • Supervise field staff and support staff, including completion of performance evaluations.
  • Draft, monitor and revise internal project policies and procedures.
  • Prepare annual CDBS budget and monitor expenditures and projected costs.
  • Monitor progress towards the completion of all project activities.
  • Supervise CDBS field and administrative staff.
  • Coordinate purchase of supplies and services.

Minimum Qualifications


Knowledges and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the principles of management and organization; and of administrative survey principles and techniques and skill in their applications; thorough knowledge of the subject area of assignment.
 
Ability to plan, organize, conduct and participate in major administrative and analytical studies; ability to relate the overall objectives and policies of the Trustees, the Office of the Chancellor and the administration and faculties of the campus to the studies; ability to see the interrelationships within and among the various educational, administrative and fiscal programs on the campuses; sensitivity to the special needs of various campuses because of different size, location, characteristics and circumstances; ability to approach problems
objectively; ability to present findings and recommendations clearly and |diplomatically and to reconcile, to the extent possible, various divergent points of view; ability to utilize complex statistical and various analytical research methods; ability to draw conclusions and develop recommendations; ability to prepare written reports; ability to develop and maintain high level contacts including the leading of meetings and negotiations.
 
Experience:
Five years of progressively responsible administrative or professional experience which demonstrates ability to conduct complex analyses of problems in assigned functional areas. The rank of Associate Professor or higher in a four-year college or university and demonstrated experience in research or special study work may be substituted for up to four years of experience.
 
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in special education or related field.
  • Teaching credential in deafblind, extensive support needs, Deaf/hard of hearing, and/or blind/visual impairments.
  • Extensive experience teaching infants, children, and young adults who are deafblind.
  • Extensive experience supporting families of children who are deafblind.
  • Experience in the provision of technical assistance, coaching, and/or mentorship.
  • Extensive experience in pre-service training and professional development training activities.
  • Experience in management of government grants.

Environmental/Physical/Special

The Project Coordinator must be able to travel extensively throughout California.
