The University of Virginia is seeking Project Associate in the School of Architecture’s Center for Cultural Landscapes.  The Center for Cultural Landscapes (CCL) Project Associate is a full-time position that supports the Center’s Faculty Director. The successful candidate will report to the faculty director. The Project Associate supports the Faculty Director’s management of student fellows, travel planning, and advisory board management while supporting the part-time field and outreach coordinator. They will serve as point person for board communications, project scheduling, and meeting planning. The project associate will also support teams, committees, and tasks or functions related to special grant funded initiatives and related Center activities.

Most of the Project Associate’s time will be allocated toward a unique grant-funded historic preservation and arts–related initiative for which the Faculty Director serves as a principal investigator. Managed under the auspices of the CCL, the initiative will require engagement with various stakeholder groups within and outside UVA, commissioning technological and artistic talent, and coordinating place-based learning for UVA students to support project aims. This initiative will create a robust slate of work to tell a new foundational story of the United States, commemorating African American places and history across three states. The CCL’s initiative will create a new online space for storytelling and engagement with historic Black settlements, events, and educational symposia, new historic preservation courses, and dispense grant funding to grassroots artists and preservationists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, Masters preferred in Urban Planning, American Studies, Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History, or African American Studies or related fields.

  • At least two years of related work experience

  • Experience tracking and coordinating projects and handling extensive high-level scheduling, calendar management, meeting planning, and correspondence.

  • Excellent writing, spelling, grammar, proofreading, and strong verbal communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently, and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion.

  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment.

  • Experience working with boards and supporting a senior manager or executive.

Anticipated hiring range : $70,000-72,000

This is a restricted term limited position and continuation is based on the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
