Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
This Statistical Research Programmers position will be joining a strong, international collaborative working group and accessing data from large claims data, electronic health records, and other types of big data. The role of the Statistical Research Programmer is integral in a dynamic multidisciplinary setting, supporting research initiatives encompassing a diverse array of critical subjects, including healthcare and health policy. Work closely with the PI and collaborators in creating, managing, and analyzing large and complex data sets. The Statistical Research Programmer is expected to acquire a basic understanding of the research topic and a thorough knowledge of the data involved while applying programming and analytic skills. This position is part-time up of up to 19 hours a week and scheduled to conclude six (6)months from the hire date.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the PI and collaborators in creating, managing, and analyzing large and complex data sets.
  • Provide programming support using Python, SAS, or R for research projects that use two large databases, CURES and IQVIA databases that contain billions of claims records and dispensing records.
  • Prepare technical reports, papers, graphs, and/or records and provide interpretations.
  • Assist with data visualization efforts.
  • Propose creative and innovative approaches to solving conceptual programming problems.
  • Understand the research topic and have a thorough knowledge of the data involved while applying programming and analytical skills.
  • Write up brief reports about the methodology and result interpretation after data analysis.
  • Assist in manuscript drafting and modifying analysis according to PI requirements.
  • Write up machine learning algorithms under the supervision of PI and external collaborators.
Required Qualifications
  • MA/MS (or in progress) in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative field required. Ability to program using Python, SAS, or R for data management and statistical analysis.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in statistical programming with Python, SAS, or R, with a preference for candidates proficient in at least two of the mentioned languages
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a solid understanding of statistical methods
  • Good Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to produce careful and detail-oriented work
  • Ability to work in a team environment
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of experience working with healthcare claims data from Medicare, Medicaid, or private-sector healthcare claims such as Marketscan data.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals in health services, epidemiology, or similar fields.
  • A good understanding of statistical methods for geospatial epidemiology (e.g., ArcGIS and preferably SaTScan™).
  • Experience in writing and preparing manuscripts for publication.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of epidemiological study design.
  • Previous clinical or research training.
