The Dentistry Administration unit is seeking a Program/Student Advisor to join their team. Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Student and Diversity Affairs, this position is responsible for the development and implementation of student services, student leadership student/alumni mentorship and student/faculty mentorship programs. This position requires the employee to be on site to best serve students.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student success by defining and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals.
  • Counsel students in accordance with the UIC and the College of Dentistry policies and guidelines. Provide stewardship of student life, leadership and involvement with the College. Coordinate and evaluate student leadership development programs and activities.
  • Establish cooperative relationships with and act as a liaison between the college and university's student support services such as tutoring services, peer mentoring, academic support, housing, financial aid, social and cultural support, career support, health and wellness and others.
  • Participates and attends college and university engagement events, open house events, and other college events that support student success.
  • Participate in the implementation of initiatives for the college of dentistry community that foster sound practices for student retention programs, student/alumni mentorship programs, student/faculty mentorship programs and special projects to ensure the College of Dentistry student retention goals are met.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with faculty, staff, managing partners, Associate Deans, Dean and the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Clinical Affairs personnel to ensure a cohesive student experience aligned with the College policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate and timely student records in Banner and uses data tools and retention systems, to track at risk students proactively and assist students.
  • Serves in an advisory capacity in standing and ad hoc College committees such as: Diversity Community, Subcommittee on Student Conduct, Student, Faculty and Staff Relations Committee and Subcommittee on Student Promotions and similar other committees at the university level.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in social science, education, or related field
    • Demonstrated experience providing support services to students in an academic or university setting.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Must have a strong commitment to education and have the counseling or coaching skills required to effectively keep students on track.
    • Ability to speak publicly.
    • Strong problem solving and time management skills.
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
